The best time of year to marry in Croatia, month by month
Weather, water temperature, crowds and light — a plainspoken guide to when to hold a wedding on the Croatian Adriatic.
The Croatian coast has a long, forgiving season. Roughly May through October you can plan an outdoor wedding with confidence. Within that window each month has its own character.
May
Spring. Everything is in flower, days sit at 20 – 24 °C, the sea is still cool at 17 – 19 °C. Quiet islands, lower prices. Good for couples who love soft light and don't need to swim.
June
Our favourite month. 24 – 28 °C, sea around 22 °C, islands not yet full, long golden evenings. If you can, come in June.
July and August
High season. 28 – 34 °C, more people, higher prices. On remote islands and on boats it still works beautifully. In Hvar Town or central Dubrovnik in August, we'd think twice.
September
The other favourite. Sea at its warmest (around 24 °C), islands emptying, light softening. Many of our best weddings have been in the first three weeks of September.
October
The first two weeks are often still warm (20 – 24 °C) but less predictable. Better for very small ceremonies, and always with a plan B indoors.
What we recommend most often
Late May, mid to late June, or the first three weeks of September. Book at least twelve months ahead for those windows — good boats, good officiants and the best small venues go early.
